Why did the son of God choose a mule to ride upon?

There are many creatures in this world. There are horses, zebra's, camels and elephants etc.etc. But why did Jesus choose a Mule to ride on? A mule is a very slow creature, and very stubborn. So why didn't he choose a chariot? Or a stronger animal? Why did he choose a mule?
