Is bass hard to learn?

I've been playing piano for the past 12 years, I know a lot of the theory behind it. I started learning a little bit of guitar and I've written a few song already, it was simple since you just use the frets as half steps for the notes. But I really want to learn bass. I have for the the past couple years now. Mainly because of KC Wolf in The Chariot, hehe.
